Team Crawford expect title winning effort this Saturday on AWE

San Diego, CA (February 27. 2014)–This Saturday afternoon, undefeated Terence Crawford will look to capture his 1st world title when he takes on WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns from Glasgow, Scotland in a bout that can be seen LIVE on AWE at 2pm eastern / 11 am pacific.

Crawford of Omaha, Nebraska has a record of 22-0 with 16 knockouts has traveled to the United Kingdom for once purpose and that is to bring back the world championship.

“I am ready. Training went excellent,” said Crawford after a workout on Tuesday.

The opportunity to fight for a world title will not add any pressure to the even keeled Crawford.

“I am treating like this any other fight.”

He respects Burns but he does not believe that champions has anything that Crawford can’t handle.

“Burns brings the belt and experience. Whatever else he has, I will be ready for.”

Crawford is not worried about getting a fair shake from the judges but isn’t necessarily looking for the stoppage.

“If I get the knockout then it comes. The only thing that I am looking for is being victorious.”

“Just tune in Saturday and there will be a new champion.”

Said manager Brian Mcintyre, “We started preparing for this when Terence won the NABO title in June. We have been training the whole time for this. We are not worried about the judges. Bob Arum has talked to (WBO President) Paco Varcarcel and we know there will be good experienced judges. We are just going over there handle our business. We know Burns does not want this fight. He tried offering us step-aside money for us not to take this bout to get out of it.”

One of the men, who help mold career path for Crawford is Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman who said, “The expected 10,000 fans wont faze Terence. Terence is a professional and he comes from a tough area and he will not be intimidated.”

SELBY STOPS MUNROE IN 6 TO WIN EUROPEAN FEATHERWEIGHT CROWN

SAN DIEGO (FEBRUARY 3RD, 2014)–This past Saturday, Lee Selby won the European and retained the British Featherweight title with a 6th round stoppage over former world title challenger Rendall Munroe in a scheduled 12 round fight at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales.

The fight was shown LIVE in the United States on AWE

It was trouble for Munroe at the very end of round one when Selby rocked Munroe with a straight right hand. In round six, Selby landed a right hand that drove Munroe into the corner and kept Munroe in the corner for the better part of a minute and continued to land shots until a hard left hook spun Munroe’s face around and the fight was stopped at 1:31.

Selby, 125 1/2 lbs of Wales is now 18-1 with 7 knockouts. Munroe, 124 1/4 lbs is now 27-4-1.

2012 Olympic Gold Medal winner Anthony Joshua scored a 3rd round stoppage over Dorian Darch in a scheduled 6 round Heavyweight bout.

Joshua ripped Darch with a hard combination on the ropes at the end of the 1st frame. Joshua landed several hard shots in round two and then landed a ripping left hook that sent Darch into the ropes and the fight was stopped at 51 seconds of round 2.

Gary Buckland registered a 12 round split decision over former world champion Gavin Rees in a spirited battle that was an British lightweight elimination bout.

The action started off quick with Rees landing the to the body with the right hand. They stood in the “phone booth” for much of the fight with Rees continuing to work the body and Buckland countering with short uppercuts on the inside. In round five, Buckland started to up his activity level but in the next round, Rees got back to landing some thudding body shots as well as mixing rights to the head.

Buckland’s activity level picked it up again in round eight as he started to back Rees up on the ropes. As the rounds went on, Buckland’s activity rate was very consistent. Both guys continued to dig deep but Buckland probably got the 10th frame when he landed a right hand that drove Rees back to the ropes. Rees’ right eye started to shot from all the contact in this intense battle. Both guys wanted it in the 12th and this fight that could have gone either way. In the last last 30 seconds alone, Rees rocked Buckland with a hard right but Buckland came right back with furious combination.

Buckland, 134 3/4 lbs of Cardiff, Wales won by scores of 116-113 and 115-114 while Rees got a card 116-113.

Buckland is now 28-3. Rees, 135 lbs is now 37-4-1.

In a terrific back and forth battle, Dale Evans scored a 8 round decision win over Erick Ochieng in a Welterweight bout.

It was a slug fest with both guys being rocked throughout the bout.

Evans, 148 1/4 lbs won by a 77-76 tally in the referee’s scorecard and is now 8-1-1. Ochieng, 148 3/4 lbs is 14-3.

Terence Crawford to Battle Ricky Burns for the WBO Lightweight World Championship Live and Exclusively on AWE on Saturday, March 1st

SAN DIEGO (JANUARY 22, 2014)–On Saturday afternoon, March 1st, Ricky Burns will make his 4th defense of the WBO Lightweight title when he takes on highly regarded and undefeated Terence Crawford in a 12-round bout from the Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

The fight can be viewed live and exclusively across the United States on AWE, A Wealth of Entertainment.

“This world title fight showdown has the makings of a ‘fight of the year’. Crawford is undefeated and coming off some big wins. Burns is a proven champ. We’re ecstatic to be bringing this world-class title fight to boxing fans across the United States”, said Charles Herring, president of AWE.

Burns of Coatbridge, Scotland has a record of 36-2-1 with 11 knockouts and has not lost a fight in over seven years which spans 22 fights. He won the WBO Super Featherweight title with a thrilling 12 round unanimous decision over Roman Martinez. He made three defenses of his crown which includes wins over Andreas Evensen and Joseph Laryea. Burns then stopped former WBO Super featherweight champion Nicky Cook in one round.

Burns moved up to Lightweight and in his first fight at the higher weight class, he scored a 12 round unanimous decision over former champion Michael Katsidis to win the WBO Interim title.

Burns won the full title with a 12 round unanimous decision over former WBA champion Paulus Moses. Burns looked great in taking out fellow United Kingdom fighter Kevin Mitchell in four rounds. He then was able to outlast undefeated Jose Gonzalez when Gonzalez was forced to retire on the stool after the 9th round.

In his last bout, Burns fought through a broken jaw to salvage a controversial draw with Ray Beltran on September 7, 2013.

In the bout, Burns started off fast, but Beltran responded. By the end of the fight, many US boxing fans felt that Beltran should have walked away with the title belt.

Burns is 8-0-1 in world title fights.

Crawford of Omaha, Nebraska will be making his 1st attempt at a world title and brings in a perfect ledger at 22-0 with 16 knockouts.

The 26-year old is widely regarded as one of the top fighters in the division and has been performing at a high level.

He started to open eyes when he scored a shutout victory over hard-hitting power puncher Breidis Prescott on March 30, 2013.

Crawford followed that up with a 6-round beat down of Alejandro Sanabria (34-1-1) on June 15, 2013.

In his last bout, Crawford showed his terrific boxing ability by winning via shutout on all three judges’ score cards against previously undefeated Andrey Klimov (16-0) on October 5, 2013 in Orlando, Florida.

Selby – Munroe European title fights kicks off the AWE 2014 boxing year on Saturday, February 1st

SAN DIEGO, CA. (JANUARY 21, 2014)-A terrific afternoon of live boxing is in store for fight fans as Lee Selby and Rendall Munroe battle for the vacant European Featherweight title as well as Selby’s British title live and exclusively on AWE – A Wealth of Entertainment.

The main event will headline a full fight card from the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales and will be shown LIVE in the United States on AWE and www.awetv.com starting at 3 pm ET / Noon PT.

The exciting co-feature will pit former WBA Super Lightweight champion Gavin Rees battle Gary Buckland in a 12 round Lightweight bout.

“This is a great doubleheader to start our 2014 boxing program”, said AWE President Charles Herring. “These will be exciting fights and it will be a great afternoon of boxing.”

The 26 year-old turned professional in 2008 and is on a 13 fight win streak which includes a slew of quality victories over the likes of Stephen Smith (12-0) to win the British Featherweight title; Patrick Okine (11-1-1) to win the Commonwealth Featherweight title; Martin Lindsey (20-1); Corey McConnell (11-0-1); Viorel Simon (16-0) and in his last bout Selby scored a 12 round unanimous decision over Ryan Walsh (16-0-1) on October 5, 2013 to retain his British and Commonwealth titles.

Munroe of Leicester, England is a three-time world title challenger and has a record of 27-3-1 with 11 knockouts.

He won his first ten bouts as a pro and then came up short in his 1st attempt to capture the British Featherweight title when he dropped a close decision to Andy Morris (13-0). Munroe then went on a roll where he won 11 straight which included 2 wins over future and current IBF Jr. Featherweight champion Kiko Martinez. The first win was for the European Super Bantamweight title and Munroe made six defenses of the title with wins over Arson Martirosyan (12-1) and Simone Maludrottu (30-2). The win over Maludrottu doubled as an elimination bout that forced a final eliminator bout with Victor Terrazas (26-1-1).

Munroe was up for the challenge as he stopped Terrazas in nine rounds to set up a title fight with WBC Champion Toshiaki Nishioka. Munroe traveled to Japan and came up a bit short in his first shot at a world title.

Munroe was not deterred as he won three straight to set up a 2nd world title shot with fellow Brit Scott Quigg (24-0) for the WBA Crown.

Unfortunately Munroe was cut in the 3rd round of their 1st contest which set up a rematch that saw the classy Quigg score a 6th round stoppage. Since that fight, Munroe has won three in a row which includes a decision win over Pavels Senkovs on November 2nd.

In the co-feature, Rees of Newbridge, Wales will look to get back in the title picture. He has a record of 37-3-1 with 18 knockouts.

Rees won the WBA Super Lightweight title with a 12 round unanimous decision over Soulemayne M’baye. Rees dropped the title in his 1st defense as he was stopped in the final round against Andriy Kotelnik.

Rees went on to win eight fights in a row and captured a Prizefighter championship as well as the European Lightweight championship when he stopped previously undefeated John Murray (13-0) in 11 rounds.

He defended the crown four times before coming to America and putting up a terrific effort before being stopped by Adrien Broner in five rounds. Rees will be looking to get back in the column after losing a 12 round majority decision to Anthony Crolla on June 29, 2013.

Buckland of Cardiff, Wales has a record of 27-3 with 9 knockouts. He won 18 of his 1st 20 fights. He lost via 11th round stoppage to undefeated John Murray (28-0) for the British Lightweight title. After that defeat, Buckland won nine fights in a row, including the Prizefighter Lightweight championship with wins over Derry Matthews (23-4); Gary Sykes (16-0) and Stevie Bell (18-2-2).

Buckland won the British Super Featherweight title with a 12 round unanimous decision in the rematch with Sykes.

He defended the title twice with wins over Paul Truscott (18-2) and Stephen Foster (30-3-1) before dropping the title in his most recent outing via 5th round stoppage to Stephen Smith (16-1) on August 17, 2013.

Selby looks to get in Featherweight mix with a win over Munroe this Saturday afternoon on AWE
