2012 Bronze Medal winner Shelestyuk plus Whitlock highlight Boxcino undercard this Friday in Laughlin

Philadelphia, PA (February 20, 2014)– Tomorrow night at the Edgewater Casino in Laughlin, Nevada, Boxcino 2014 kick offs with the opening round in the lightweight division. In addition to the four quarterfinal lightweight bouts, two members of the Banner Promotions stable will be in action.

2012 Olympic bronze medal winner Taras Shelestyuk will fight Francisco Flores in a jr. middleweight bout scheduled for four rounds. Also seeing action will be undefeated jr. welterweight Cornelius Whitlock battles Luis Hernandez in a 4-round bout.

Shelestyuk, of Sumi, Ukraine, has a record of 6-0 with 4 knockouts and will be making his first start of 2014 after a busy eight-month stretch in 2013 when he turned pro and racked up those six wins, including a decision over then undefeated Travis Hanshaw (7-0).

Shelestyuk fights out of the famed Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California, and is managed by Vadim Kornilov.

Flores of Mexico City is 2-3 with 1 knockout.

Whitlock, of Baltimore, Maryland, has a record of 2-0-2 with one knockout and is coming off a first-round stoppage over Josue Rivera on November 14 in Washington, D.C.

Hernandez of San Bernadino, California has a record of 2-6 with two knockouts.

Gatica (13-2, 8 KO’s) of Austin, Texas is entered in the Boxcino 2014 tournament that will start on Friday, February 28th in Hammond, Indiana when he takes on undefeated Sena Agbeko (15-0, 15 KO’s) of Ghana in a fight that will be shown LIVE on ESPN 2.

BOXCINO 2014 PAIRINGS TO BE REVEALED TONIGHT ON ESPN’S FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS

PHILADELPHIA (JANUARY 31, 2014)–Tonight during the ESPN’s Friday Night Fights broadcast, the pairings for the much anticipated Boxcino 2014 tournament will be revealed to the world.

The Tournament, which was announced on Wednesday will feature two weight divisions with eight fighters competing in each division and will be broadcast live over five editions of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.

The broadcast will begin at 9 pm eastern time.

“The last few days has brought a lot of excitement to all that are involved in the tournament,” said Arthur Pelullo, CEO of Banner Promotions.

“It has that March Madness feel to it where the matchups and the brackets mean everything to these fighters. We are excited for tonight to see who ends up fighting each other and the feedback we have received in the last few days has been overwhelming with positive remarks and anticipation.”

The opening round will commence on February 21st in Laughlin, Nevada with the Lightweight quarterfinals. The Middleweights will get underway on February 28th in Hammond, Indiana.




BANNER PROMOTIONS & ESPN’S FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS TEAM UP FOR THE 2014 BOXCINO CHAMPIONSHIP TO BEGIN ON FEBRUARY 21

(PHILADELPHIA, PA JANUARY 30, 2014)– Banner Promotions and ESPN’s Friday Night Fight’s will team up this February to showcase a tournament that will develop boxing’s newest stars. The 2014 Boxcino Championships will be a single-elimination, two weight class tournament that will feature eight fighters in both the lightweight and middleweight divisions.

The tournament will consist of five shows, to include a preliminary round, semifinals and finals in each division and will take place throughout the ESPN Friday Night Fights season. The inaugural event will take place on February 21 at the Edgewater Casino in Laughlin, Nevada.

Each preliminary round will feature four, 6-round bouts. The winners will move on to the semifinals, which will be 8-round bouts. The finals of both the lightweights and middleweights will be contested at 10 rounds each.

A “most valuable boxer” will be voted by the fans and will be given a specially designed ring.

“We are looking forward to showcasing this tournament on Friday Night Fights and Noche de Combates,” said Brian Kweder, ESPN senior director of programming and acquisitions. “It will give fans the opportunity to see some of the best up-and-coming fighters in the sport and follow them throughout the Friday Night Fights and Noche de Combates season. ESPN did a similar tournament back in 1997, which was won by future four-time world champion Acelino “Popo” Freitas. We hope to find another diamond in the rough like we did that year.”

ESPN Friday Night Fights & Noche de Combates to Televise Boxing Tournament: Boxcino 2014

ESPN will televise the Boxcino 2014 tournament, a new boxing tournament presented by Banner Promotions, that will air on ESPN Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra and ESPN Deportes™ Noche de Combates presented by Corona Extra. The first of five shows will be held Friday, Feb. 21, at the Edgewater Casino in Laughlin, Nevada, and will air live at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2, broadband Spanish-languageESPN Deportes+ and WatchESPN. ESPN Deportes will televise the fights on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m. The competition will be a single-elimination, two-weight class tournament that will feature eight fighters in both the Lightweight and Middleweight divisions.

Delvin Rodríguez and Pablo Viruega will call the fights for Noche de Combates (Fight Night) on both ESPN Deportes and ESPN Deportes+, while Leopoldo González and Claudia Trejos will anchor the studio.
