Former Boxcino champions and World Title Challengers Willie Monroe Jr. and John Thompson Clash in Middleweight Bout On Saturday, June 11 at The Turning Stone Casino Resort, Live on SHOWTIME EXTREME®

PHILADELPHIA (May 16, 2016) — It will be a battle of the Boxcino champions when former world title challengers, Willie Monroe Jr. and John Thompson, square off in a 10-round middleweight bout in the main event of SHOWTIME BOXING on SHO EXTREME on Saturday, June 11, live 7 p.m. ET/PT from The Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y.

In the SHO EXTREME co-feature, Boxcino 2015 heavyweight champion Andrey Fedosov (28-3, 23 KOs) will face Mario Heredia (11-1, 9 KOs, 1-2 in WSB) in a 10-round heavyweight bout.

The SHO EXTREME bouts will precede a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader that will feature Ruslan Provodnikov taking on John Molina Jr. in what should be an action-packed junior welterweight bout for as long as it lasts.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Banner Promotions, Inc., are priced at $85, $60, $45 and $35 and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Turning Stone Box Office, by calling 877.833.SHOW, or online at Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).

Monroe Jr., of nearby Rochester, N.Y., and Thompson, of Newark, N.J., have near identical records. Monroe is 19-2 with six knockouts, Thompson’s 17-2 with six knockouts.

The 29 year-old Monroe won the 2014 Boxcino Middleweight Tournament with victories over Donatas Bondorovas (18-4-1), Vitaly Kopylenko (23-0) and Brandon Adams (14-0). He followed Boxcino up with an impressive 10-round unanimous decision over perennial contender Brian Vera last January.

Monroe’s win streak set up an opportunity on May 16, 2015, to fight middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin. Monroe put up a solid effort and gave Golovkin his toughest test to date, but came up short in his title opportunity.

“I am glad to be back, and I look forward to fighting in front of my loyal fans who will come from Rochester to see me fight,” Monroe said.

The 27 year-old Thompson won the 2015 Boxcino Junior Middleweight tournament with wins over Ricardo Pinell (10-1-1), Stanyslav Skorokhod (9-0) and Brandon Adams (17-1).

Following the 2015 Boxcino tournament, Thompson traveled to Manchester, England to fight undefeated Liam Smith for the WBO Junior Middleweight title on Oct. 10, 2015. Thompson was impressive and was ahead on the scorecards before being stopped in the seventh round.

“I have been training hard, and I look forward to fighting another Boxcino champion like Willie Monroe,” Thompson said. “It should make for a great fight.”

Since winning the Boxcino tournament, when he stopped Donovan Dennis in the eighth round on May 22, 2015, Fedosov has been out of the ring with lingering injuries. Now he is back training at the famed Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles readying for his ring return.

“I am glad that I will finally be getting back in the ring,” Fedosov said. “I got some time to rest and now I feel better and stronger than ever. I just want to get in that ring on June 11. I am looking forward to putting on a great show as I look for a major fight.”

Heredia, of Merida, Mexico, will be looking for a signature victory to catapult his career and become a player in the suddenly open heavyweight division.

“This is a big opportunity for me,” he said. “I was scheduled to be in the Boxcino tournament, but I had an injury, and I feel I would have won it. Now to be able to face and beat the champion will prove what I thought all along.”

GH3 Promotions Thompson, Douglas and Odom look to shine Friday night in Memphis

Nutley, NJ (January 15, 2014)- Three members of the GH3 Promotions’ stable will be in action in action on Friday in Memphis, Tennessee, with two of them featured on national television as part of Showtime’s SHOBOX: The New Generation.

Undefeated jr. middleweight John “Apollo Kidd” Thompson (14-0, 5 KO’s) takes on Frank Galarza (11-0-2, 7 KO’s) in an 8-round bout. Also, undefeated middleweight Antoine “Action” Douglas (11-0, 7 KO’s) takes on Marquis Davis (8-0-2, 5 KO’s) in an 8-round bout.

Both Thompson and Douglas will be part of the live SHOBOX broadcast, while undefeated super middleweight Jerry Odom (7-0, 7 first-round KO’s) battles Demetrius Walker (6-2-1, 4 KO’s) in a six-round bout that will take place before the cameras roll.

“Camp was excellent and I had great sparring,” said Thompson, who lives and trains in Newark, New Jersey. “I see that Galarza likes to box and comes forward but i believe he is a bit slow.”

The 24-year-old Thompson doesn’t see the bout as a battle for Metro New York supremacy, even though Galarza in from nearby Brooklyn. “Nobody in New Jersey knows who he is. Everybody knows who I am”, said Thompson.

This will be Thompson’s second bout on SHOBOX. In May 2013, he scored four knockdowns en route to an 8-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Geovanny Rodriguez.

“This fight is no big deal. I have been through this before. I have to come prepared regardless.”

Facing Galarza fits into Thompson’s plan of fighting top competition, as his last four opponents had a combined record of 37-4-1. Thompson knows these types of fights will advance his career. “To be the best, you have to beat the best. I am not here to just fight anybody”, said Thompson.

Thompson is an accomplished artist and he has something very special planned for his ring entrance.

“I am going to bring my paintings into the ring. You see guys with the entourage bring their belts. Well on Friday, I am going to bring my paintings.”

Douglas of Burke, Virginia, will be making his SHOBOX debut against the undefeated Davis. “It’s a good fight,” said Douglas. “A step up and its for the WBC FECARBOX title and it is on Showtime., so I am ready. I just know he is undefeated. Other than that, I really do not know much on him.

“This is a great opportunity to show the fans what I am made of and capable of. I am just ready to fight.”

Odom, of Washington, DC, is looking to keep his knockout streak alive, as none of his seven opponents have made it out of the first round.

“My camp has been good and I feel strong and fast. Everything is coming together and I am learning something new everyday”, said the 20-year-old Odom.

Odom has never seen Walker fight, and has no scouting report of his opponent. “All I know that he is a southpaw”, said Odom. “”I am just going to fight my fight. I am ready and just want to thank my team for the opportunity to fight and show the people my talent.”

Said GH3 Promotions Vito Mielnicki: “I am very excited for these three kids. John and Antoine have a chance to make big statements on the televised portion, and I believe that it won’t be long before Jerry joins them on the same platform.”
