PHILADELPHIA (May 16, 2016) — It will be a battle of the Boxcino champions when former world title challengers, Willie Monroe Jr. and John Thompson, square off in a 10-round middleweight bout in the main event of SHOWTIME BOXING on SHO EXTREME on Saturday, June 11, live 7 p.m. ET/PT from The Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y.

In the SHO EXTREME co-feature, Boxcino 2015 heavyweight champion Andrey Fedosov (28-3, 23 KOs) will face Mario Heredia (11-1, 9 KOs, 1-2 in WSB) in a 10-round heavyweight bout.

The SHO EXTREME bouts will precede a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader that will feature Ruslan Provodnikov taking on John Molina Jr. in what should be an action-packed junior welterweight bout for as long as it lasts.

Monroe Jr., of nearby Rochester, N.Y., and Thompson, of Newark, N.J., have near identical records. Monroe is 19-2 with six knockouts, Thompson’s 17-2 with six knockouts.

The 29 year-old Monroe won the 2014 Boxcino Middleweight Tournament with victories over Donatas Bondorovas (18-4-1), Vitaly Kopylenko (23-0) and Brandon Adams (14-0). He followed Boxcino up with an impressive 10-round unanimous decision over perennial contender Brian Vera last January.

Monroe’s win streak set up an opportunity on May 16, 2015, to fight middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin. Monroe put up a solid effort and gave Golovkin his toughest test to date, but came up short in his title opportunity.

“I am glad to be back, and I look forward to fighting in front of my loyal fans who will come from Rochester to see me fight,” Monroe said.

The 27 year-old Thompson won the 2015 Boxcino Junior Middleweight tournament with wins over Ricardo Pinell (10-1-1), Stanyslav Skorokhod (9-0) and Brandon Adams (17-1).

Following the 2015 Boxcino tournament, Thompson traveled to Manchester, England to fight undefeated Liam Smith for the WBO Junior Middleweight title on Oct. 10, 2015. Thompson was impressive and was ahead on the scorecards before being stopped in the seventh round.

“I have been training hard, and I look forward to fighting another Boxcino champion like Willie Monroe,” Thompson said. “It should make for a great fight.”

Since winning the Boxcino tournament, when he stopped Donovan Dennis in the eighth round on May 22, 2015, Fedosov has been out of the ring with lingering injuries. Now he is back training at the famed Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles readying for his ring return.

“I am glad that I will finally be getting back in the ring,” Fedosov said. “I got some time to rest and now I feel better and stronger than ever. I just want to get in that ring on June 11. I am looking forward to putting on a great show as I look for a major fight.”

Heredia, of Merida, Mexico, will be looking for a signature victory to catapult his career and become a player in the suddenly open heavyweight division.

“This is a big opportunity for me,” he said. “I was scheduled to be in the Boxcino tournament, but I had an injury, and I feel I would have won it. Now to be able to face and beat the champion will prove what I thought all along.”

Provodnikov-Molina Jr. will headline a live SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOOXING tripleheader live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) that will also feature a WBC Super Welterweight Elimination bout between Demetrius Andrade and Willie Nelson, plus a battle for the vacant WBC Lightweight World Championship that will pit No. 1 Dejan Zlaticanin against No. 2 Emiliano Marsili.

PHILADELPHIA (MAY 27, 2014)–Petr Petrov and Willie Monroe Jr. won the Boxcino 2014 lightweight and middleweight tournaments respectively as Petrov stopped Fernando Carcamo in round 8, while Monroe pounded a 10-round unanimous decision over Brandon Adams at the Turning Stone Resort Casino.

Also in the process, Petrov and Monroe Jr. each took home the NABA and NABO titles as well.

The show and tournament was promoted by Banner Promotions and was broadcast on ESPN 2, ESPN Deportes and WatchESPN

Petrov landed a nice right in round three. Petrov kept up the solid pace as he landed some shots inside the long punches of Carcamo. In round four, Petrov landed two solid uppercuts and a right hand on the inside. In round five, Petrov began to work the body with hard lefts that set off a volume of punches to the head.

Petrov rocked Carcamo in round six with a flurry of punches that had Carcamo stumbling around the ring. In round seven, Petrov began to pound away in spots before landing a big right hand in the final twenty seconds of the round. Petrov landed a huge left and right just before the bell sounded for good measure. The fight could have been stopped in between rounds but Carcamo came out for the 8th but it did not last long as Petrov landed a left and right and the fight was stopped 40 seconds into round 8.

Petrov, 134 lbs of Madrid, Spain is now 35-3 with 17 knockouts. Carcamo, 135 lbs of Ciudad, Obregon, Mexico is now 17-6.

“We had a game plan and it played out like we wanted,”said Petrov.

“The key was my movement that kept him off balance. He never hurt me to the head, but I felt his body shots. This is a great boom to my career. I want to be big in the United States. This is where great events happen and I plan to have a great career here,” finished Petrov.

Said Carcamo, “This was not my night. He was the better man.”

Willie Monroe Jr. won the Boxcino, NABA and NABO Middleweight titles with a 10-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Brandon Adams.

Monroe Jr. was successful with his jab in the first three rounds. Late in round three, Adams landed an overhand right that set off a nice exchange on the inside. Adams came on to start round four by battling on the inside but Monroe put together some crisp combinations to close out the frame. Adams began round five working well on the inside only to eat some hard shots in return. Adams came back to land a flush right in the corner.

In round six, Adams landed a good right hand that sent Monroe into the corner. Moments later, Monroe shot back with a good counter left. Adams got into a pattern of following Monroe around the ring and kept getting caught with combinations. Adams had a good round eight as he had Monroe against the ropes for an elongated period. Monroe was able to fight off in spots and land some solid blows. Adams continued to press the action but Monroe was deft at moving away and in round nine began to dance around the ring.

Monroe Jr, 159 1/2 lbs of Rochester, NY won by scores of 99-91 on all cards and is now 17-1. Adams, 158 lbs of Los Angeles, CA is now 14-1.

“That kid is strong as hell,”said Monroe Jr.

“I knew he was strong, I just had to show him things that he has not seen. He shook me up a couple times.”

Vitor Jones De Oliviera registered a 4-round unanimous decision over Michael Jackson in a Jr. Lightweight bout.

De Oliviera dropped Jackson with a left hook and round three and controlled the action throughout the fight.

De Oliviera, 131 lbs of Salvador, Brazil is the nephew of Brazilian legend Acelino Freitas and is now 4-0.

In a Heavyweight slug fest, Eric George picked up his 1st victory with a 4-round unanimous decision over Raymond Santiago.

George bloodied Santiago’s nose as early as round two and landed the harder shots which led to his victory by scores of 40-36 on all cards.

George, 202 lbs of Niagara Falls, NY is 1-6. Santiago, 232 lbs of Albany, NY is 0-3.

Marcus Hall scored an 4-round majority decision over previously undefeated Cesar Vila in a Jr. Middleweight bout.

Scores were 40-36, 39-37 and 38-38 for Hall, 151 lbs of Rochester, NY and he is now 8-6-1. Vila, 154 lbs of Austin, TX is now 6-1.

Samuel Teah scored a 4-round unanimous decision over Jeremy Graves in Lightweight fight.

Scores were 40-36 on all cards for Teah, 137 lbs of Philadelphia and is now 4-0. Graves, 137 lbs of Niagara Falls, NY is now 0-3.

Oscar Torres scored a 1st round knockdown en route to a 4-round unanimous decision over Cornelius Whitlock in a battle of undefeated Welterweights.

Scores were 40-35 on all cards for Torres, 144 lbs of Anaheim, California and he is now 3-0. Whitlock, 144 lbs of Baltimore, MD is now 3-1-2.

Verona, NY (APRIL 21, 2014)–Brandon Adams and Willie Monroe Jr. each took home decision victories and punched their tickets to the finals of Boxcino 2014.

The finals will take place at the same venue as the semifinals, that being the Turning Stone Resort and Casino and is promoted by Banner Promotions and the semifinals were broadcast on ESPN 2.

The finals will take place on May 23 as will the lightweight finals that will feature Fernando Carcamo and Petr Petrov. Both bouts are scheduled for 10 rounds.

Adams scored an exciting 8-round split decision over Raymond Gatica while Monroe boxed his way to an 8-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Vitalii Kopylenko.

Adams and Gatica put on a good show that saw them stand toe to toe all over the ring. Adams mixed it up being the aggressor and counter-punching effectively.

The action picked up in round three with some good exchanges. Adams rocked Gatica with a solid right in the next frame. Later in the round, Adams landed another right hand that buckled his opponent. In round six, Gatica tried to make a stand by landing a combination on the ropes but that was short lived as Adams successfully fired off a pair of right hands to stop that flurry. Adams boxed well down the stretch and even put a stamp on the fight by landing a hard right at the bell.

Adams, 161 lbs of San Diego, CA won by scores of 78-74 twice and Gatica, 158 lbs of Austin, TX took a card 77-75.

Adams is now 14-0. Gatica is now 14-3.

“He is a tough guy,” said Adams. “This is the 1st southpaw I had fought. It is a lot tougher, but I got the job done. He taught me a lot in the ring and it was a fun fight.”

Said Gatica, “I won the fight. I was busier and I landed more punches.”

Monroe darted in and out and boxed at a comfortable range. He was quick with his right hooks and quick left hands. Kopylenko looked and remained dangerous throughout the fight and landed a big right hand in round five that sent the mouthpiece of Monroe flying. That was Kopylenko’s high point of the contest as Monroe got back to effective boxing and won by scores of 79-73 twice and 78-74.”

“It was hard but fair,” said Monroe. “I gave him his 1st loss. He was coming but we fought at my range and set up feints and landed good shots.”

Adams commented on the final by saying, “We are going to dance. This is very exciting. He is a flashy southpaw. I am going to train for a slick southpaw. He put on a good show tonight.

Nate Heaven remained undefeated by scoring an explosive 1st round stoppage over Donovan Dennis in a scheduled 8-round Heavyweight bout.

Both guys landed heavy shots until Heaven landed a crushing right to the jaw that sent Dennis down. Dennis got to his feet but was wobbly and the fight was stopped at 3:00 of round one.

“I give all hail to god,”said Heaven. “The right hand is my weapon. I saw him on youtube and saw that he gained weight and got slower. My coach said to relax and I would get him.”

Heaven, 233 lbs of Ocala, FL is now 9-0-1 with 7 knockouts. Dennis, 226 lbs of Davenport, IA is now 11-2.

Marcus Hall scored a 4-round unanimous decision over Raphael Luna in a Jr. Middleweight bout.

Scores were 40-36 on all cards for Hall, 153 lbs of Rochester, NY and is now 7-6. Luna, 152.5 lbs of Albany, NY is now 3-8-3.

Simeon Hardy destroyed Rahman Yusubov inside of a round of their scheduled 6-round Jr. Middleweight bout.

Hardy scored three knockdowns with the 1st and 3rd coming from devastating left hooks at 2:36 of round one.

Cecil McCalla remained perfect by scoring a 6-round unanimous decision over Antonio Chaves Fernandez in a Welterweight bout.

McCalla hurt Fernandes in the 4th and cruised home to the victory by scores of 60-54 on all cards.
